Why No US Junior Pistol Shooters at Junior WC in Suhl?

Post by Will Hart »

Just read the USAS Press Release about the junior team members participating at the Junior WC in Suhl. 14 Shotgun and 6 Rifle will be traveling. Why are there no US junior pistol shooters participating?

Added: the capriciously high "participation limits" are not a USA phenomenon; they have also been a problem in Great Britain and South Africa. All three seem to be poor countries. Gorgs Geikie had critically addressed this too, in the past.

The thought behind it is Kafkaesquely beautiful: high limits can only be attained through repeated actual competition experience (dry firing at home is nice, but just doesn't cut it alone). Therefore, it is logical that only those may receive the necessary match exposure and participation chance (necessary is the exposure, in order to reach such limits) who already have demonstrably reached them before. A closed infinite loop, graciously avoiding the growth of any new talent. :-D

I find it hard to believe that they hold the junior shooters to the same standards. I didn't see any mention of juniors one way or another in the USAS article.

Alex Chichkov won two medals last September at the World Championship, so he would be the most likely candidate to go this year. Unless he's no longer a junior.

Alex, is no longer competing as a junior. I believe that he has turned 21.

I believe because they are at Nationals this week and USA shooting needs to balance the cost of sending them vs the gain of attendance.
