IZH Lubrication

Post by TomJ »

Is air tool oil a satisfactory substitute for Crossman Pellgun oil? I have an IZH46 and read somewhere that air tool oil would be acceptable for lubricating the seal and air intake. Is this accurate or is Pellgun oil the only acceptable lubricant? In addition to the seal and intake are there any other points that need to be lubricated and at what frequency? I'm assuming that 2 drops on the seal and 1 down the intake is satisfactory? I'd appreciate your comments? Thanks, Tom

Pellgun oil is much thicker than air tool oil. I have both, but didn't experiment enough to know which works better in IZH 46M.

Use Pellgun oil.

Air tool and precision spindle oil (Spindle oil is Mobil Velocite #10) is basically just straight thin oil. Crosman Pellgun oil is 20wt motor oil with O-ring preserving additives with magical properties. It'll seal small leaks on it's own, air tool oil won't do that.

I now tend to agree with the above comment, you are better off using thicker Pellgun oil, especially when the seals harden with age.
