I'm considering buying a brand new Manurhin MR38 for CFP competition (MR32 is still an option, but I already have a Pardini gun for .32 and I'm looking for something completely new/different).
I will be reloading ammo on my own, so I'd appreciate if you could share your expertise about building a match .38 Special cartridge, preferably based on VV powders which are easily available in my area (unlike most of the American powders). Personally, I was thinking about using H&N HBWC bullets (148gr/.357 or 145gr/.358 - not sure which will suit Manurhin's barrel better) along with N320 powder (charge probably between 2.0 and 3.0).

Re: Match cartridge for Manurhin MR38
Sounds good, my experience of N310 in .38 has not been terrific.
I would also consider 2.5gr WST

Re: Match cartridge for Manurhin MR38
If the new MR38 is the same as my old one (1990's) then it is a 9mm dia barrel,
ie .356 bullets.
I load for 780-820 fps with a home cast 134g BNWC and 2.8g Bullseye.
You could try a 148WC with 3.0-3.3 N320.
Start low and use a chronograph to develop your load.

In extensive testing FAT bullets are the answer. I recall some .360 WC bullets being best in a .355 bore Colt.

This not very helpful.Rover wrote:In extensive testing FAT bullets are the answer. I recall some .360 WC bullets being best in a .355 bore Colt.
If you extensive testing was on S&W revolvers the statement might be true as S&W are large in the barrel up to .358
sometimes even bigger.
I currently own a Manurhin and have had a second in the past, both are tight european .38/9mm barrels that measure
in at .354-.355.
They like sized projectiles at .355" and are capable of holding a 18-20mm group (outside to outside) at 25m or a sub 50mm
group at 50m.

That's exactly the load I used to use. It worked well for me in a number of different pistols.JamesH wrote:I would also consider 2.5gr WST
