Different ways of aiming

What kind of aiming do you guys use? Last week i was shooting with my SSP at 10meters, i was not doing very well and i was asking myself how that was possible. Another shooter approached me and told me his way of aiming.

He used the horizontal numbers on the card to line up the rear sight. My method is to aim below the black dot in your sights. What kind of aiming do you guys use and why?

How and where you aim is very, very unimportant. What is important is that you keep constant muscle tension in your body, especially in the wrist, arm and shoulder. The only reason aiming is emphasized so much so as to have your mind occupied in observing the sights, in other words to take your mind away from messing with smooth trigger squeeze too much.

Simply try it yourself to stop with the move upward in the middle of the target - you will always go too high. The numbers are no help: if you can see them, you're focussed on the target instead of the front sight (front sight focus is enough to see also the rear sight almost clear. The depth of focus works better backward than forward, so it isn't the same to focus the rear sight - the front sight won't be real sharp).

And checking your sight picture with black sights against a black background...

BUT: a lot of also very successful shooters use your described method of holding dead-center - but it needs a lot of training and a lot of concentration.

I aim with a 6-oclock hold. I try to keep my front sight just at the bottom of the bull. But you know what, I've come to realize that sight alignment is a lot more important than where my sights point on the bull. I can have a sliver of white between my sight and the bull, or my sight can be into the bottom of the bull somewhat and it can still be a 10. So long as my sights are perfectly aligned and I have a good trigger press. Also, my focus must really be on the front sight; I want to see the metal grain of that front sight, heck, the molecules of it.

On 10 meter thats not realy hard :P

Im gonna try it without adjusting my pistol. Trying it for a few days and see whats happen. Ill keep you guys posted.

You are missing the point. If you can see the numbers you are looking at the target and only using your periferal vision for the sights. You can only focus on one thing at a time.
A lower level shooter will generally shoot a better score by aiming at the middle this generally isn't the case when they get better
