W231 185 gn short line loads

Post by mr alexander »

Ttgoods,

I have used 4.7 grains of W231 with a 185 grain LSWC (hard cast) bullet.

This load worked in a Custom Colt Government Model 1911 Wadcutter Gun

that had a BoMar Full Length Sight Rib on it with a 14 pound recoil spring.

I use 4.5gr W231 under a cast LSWC bullet (from Missouri Bullet Co.) for the short line, used in a Springfield Armory 1911 Milspec w/ slide-mounted Ultradot (12 or 13lb recoil spring, IIRC) and a S&W Model 625-6 w/ 5" barrel and mounted Ultradot.

Thanks

Seems like 4.5 to 4.8 is the range for LWSC

I used 4.4 in my les baer frame mount and had fliers.

I am going to put a rib on mine so this is very useful.

BTW my dad shot a 625, heck of a gun

4.7 231 grouped tight

4.6 231 seemed to group just as tight and was less warm.

Trying 4.5 tomorrow

BTW those zero lhpswc sure do seat low does an oal of 1.2150 to 1.2250 sound right?

185 HPSWB loads W231

I think the best load is 4.5/4.6 grains

Grouped tight and soft shooting.

That Zero bullet is great with the right recipe.

I'm seating my bullets to 1.232" OAL -- Missouri Bullet Co. sells a H&G 68-style 'long-nose' bullet; the Zero LSWCHP bullets might have a shorter nose, but if they seat in such a way that they have a similar case volume, then I wouldn't think a shorter OAL would be a problem.

Tried 1.23 in my barrels and a hair too long. Shot a 94 6x with em so they seem pretty good at 4.5/4.6 231
