Iron Sights Again....?

After happily using UltraDot-equipped pistols for quite a while now, would

like to try going back to shooting some of my other Bullseye guns that still

have iron sights on them. I'm near-sighted and use single vision glasses

corrected for distance. With them, I can see my sights clearly when at an

outdoor range. At the indoor range, I have difficulty; sights are just not

nearly as clear. For an indoor facility, it is extremely well lit. The older

incandescent lights were replaced a year ago with modern L.E.D.(?) or

C.F.L.(?) fixtures and bulbs. The older lighting gave the range that dull,

faded, yellow look; the newer lights give that bright, white-hot appearance,

similar to what is seen with fluorescent tube-type bulbs.


I am using the same glasses and same guns/sights indoors and out. Yes,

there is far, far more ambient light outside than there ever could be on ANY

indoor range, regardless of how well set-up it is! Am puzzled as to why I

am unable to use same guns/sights/glasses indoors and out. Is there some

other deficiency present in my vision that would account for this problem?

Any of you ever had a similar experience? Thought I would ask here first

before going to the eye doctor. Is it possible that one would need 2 pairs

of shooting glasses; one strictly for indoor use and the other solely for the

outside if using irons at both locations? If I'm at a point in my life where

UltraDots are my only option, I'll gladly go back to using them; had no

issues shooting with a dot sight and this brand has provided excellent

performance. I just wanted to try irons once again for the heck of it. Call it

my "Mid Life Crisis". Oh, for the good ol' days when we were young!

In the (much) brighter light outside, the pupil of the eye gets smaller, the same as stopping down a camera lens. This gives you more in focus in front of and behind what you're looking at.

I think will only need one pair of glasses that focuses on the front sight. Use them inside and out.

As people age they frequently develop presbyopia, the inability to focus close. You'll probably need a separate prescription for shooting iron sights indoors, and your eyes will continue to change.
