200 gr .45 load

I have been shooting 185gr SWCHP from Precision Delta with acceptable results. I don't have a ransom rest but shots go where I expect them to be. My 50yd slow fire scores are typically low to mid 90's so I felt that they had to shoot fairly decent. I know I should RR or sand bag and do hours and hours of testing but I don't have time for that. I found a load that I felt was acceptable and went with it.

A friend sold me about 2700 Star bullets for $100. Half 185gr and half 200gr SWC. I had been reading that people thought the 200's shot better at 50yds so I thought I would try them. Usually I shoot 3.8 of Bullseye behind the Precision Delta 185's. Where should I start with the 200's? 4, 4.1 gr?

The 185 gr. Star LSWCHP shoots very well at 50 yards with 3.8 gr. VV N-310, WLP at ca 790 fps. I still have a substantial supply of these bullets. The last time Im used 200 gr. Sper LSWC's with 3.6 gr. Clay at ca 725 fpa - I do not remeber testing this load at 50 yards.

I shoot 200gr SWC with 3.6-3.7grs of Clays. Shoots X-ring at 50yds in my gun.

200 hg 68 style , 1.250 oal, .470 crimp, 4 gr of bullseye out of kart barrels shoots great at 50 yds.

Start at the same 3.8 gr Bullseye. The added weight of the head will make up most of the pressure difference from the lighter head. Been shooting that particular load for 29 years.

Scott, We used to shoot 3.5 grains bullseye behind a 185 star, but the modern bullseye must be different because now 3.5 won't cycle the action on the same gun. If you can shoot low to mid 90's with Precision Delta, you and your gun will love the Stars with most any load and I think the preference between the 185 or 200 is going to be according to the individual gun. Both have been used effectively. When I see you this fall at Highland, I will give you some Saeco 069's to try. They are by far my favorite.-- Bill --

Bullseye powder has been proved weaker in the past 20+ years of production from the real old stuff of the 70' and back

Thanks for all the info guys. My bullseye is from 1994 and I tried the 200's with the same 3.8gr. load and it seemed to work.

Bill, are you not shooting the last Arnold match next Friday? If not I will see you at Highland in October for the first International match. Scott

Yes, I will be there that Friday and bring you some 069 cast bullets. Vic O. used these and shot a 99 at 50 yards in one of the matches this year. -- Bill --
