Junior Olympics

Post by silentfury214 »

Hey,
I was wondering, what is the difference between the USA Shooting Junior Olympics and the CMP Junior Olympics? I am going to the CMP JO Qualifier soon, and I wanted to know the difference.
Thanks!

USA Shooting holds the National JO for three position rifle smallbore), precision air rifle (all standing), and air pistol. all have both men's and women's divisions.

CMP holds the 3P Air Rifle National JO for both precision rifles and sporter rifles. Men and women shoot together.

So, does USA Shooting sponsor the CMP ones?

The CMP has been running the 3P Air rifle Junior Olympics for years. USAS involvement from my understanding as explained to me many years ago from somebody at USAS is because they are using the word Olympics in the match. I don't know if you can say that USAS is sponsoring the match as they don't have the money to run the match, but the CMP does have money. I think the CMP has been the actual sponsor since the beginning.

In 2007 USA Shooting defunded their support of the 3-P JO's and Gary Anderson & Bill Mitchell worked out an agreement where the word "Olympics" could be used.
USA Shooting is a "sponsor" of the match (what that actually means, dunno), but since then CMP has funded and sanctioned the match as per the 3-P Council Rulebook (which tries to stay very much in sync with USA Shooting rules with the addition of the Sporter rifle category)
