Thought somebody might find this picture intersting. Was taken in 1917 and that is one long sight tube or scope.

The picture is of my wife's Grandmother, taken in 1917, probably in Canada. A coincidence that our daughter is a rifle shooter.

These long scopes were common in the days of the Civil War where both Confederate and Union snipers used them to cause inumerous deaths.

The Berdan sharpshooters were notable in that their marksmen were able to shoot ten shots within a circle with a diameter of ten inches at a distance of 300 yards.
Both sides used Malcolm scopes and other brands and were capable of kills of over half a mile...
