Nation’s Best Marine Corps and Air Force JROTC Shooters Compete for Invitation to National Championship - CAMP PERRY, OHIO - The best of the nation's Marine Corps and Air Force Junior ROTC shooting teams and individuals braved northern Ohio's snow and cold to compete in the second of three phases of three-position air rifle 26-27 February. Some cadets left with hopes of winning a title for their JROTC service branch at the National Championship on 25-27 March in Anniston, Alabama.

Top Army JROTC Shooters Compete for Invitation to National Championship - In November 2009 postal targets started pouring into the CMP North Headquarters from 240 Army JROTC units across the United States and U.S. military holdings around the world.
With those targets were the hopes of 2,000 cadets trying to advance to the Army JROTC Three-Position Air Rifle Service Championship held in Port Clinton, Ohio, on 18-20 February 2010. This event is part of a three tier championship series to determine the JROTC National Champions. The top shooters from the Army JROTC Championship will join the top qualifiers from the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Championships at CMP South in Anniston, Alabama, on 25-27 March 2010 for the JROTC Three-Position Air Rifle National Championship. This grueling test begins with the postal competition, and of the 2,000 Army cadets who posted scores, only 194 qualified to compete at the Army JROTC Service Championship.

CMP's Director of Civilian Marksmanship Emeritus, Mr. Gary Anderson, was featured on Nebraska's TV, What Ever Happened to Axtell Olympian Gary Anderson. Two Olympic gold medals. Seven World Championship gold medals. Six world records. 12 national titles. The winner of all that hails from Axtell, Nebraska. He's Gary Anderson who graduated from Axtell High in 1957 and then signed up for the Army, where his shooting accuracy got him assigned to the marksmanship unit at Fort Benning, Georgia. Competition fierce at marksmanship nationals - By George Whitley, U.S. Army Cadet Command - CAMP PERRY, Ohio — The 2010 Army JROTC Service Championship finished Saturday with arguably the stiffest competition the annual event has seen. Going into the event’s second day, the top nine teams were all within 25 points of each other, in a competition where the final scores would surpass 4,000. JROTC National Air Rifle Championship. Competition in the JROTC National Air Rifle Championship starts tomorrow at the Anniston (Alabama) Marksmanship Training Center. Two relays of 3x20 three-position competition will take place Friday and Saturday with start times of 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. The final round for the top eight individual competitors starts at 1:45 PM on both days. What is especially exciting about this national junior championship is that no matter where you are, you can watch the shots and scores of any individual shooter you choose to follow live on the Internet while they are shooting. CMP Staff Members Recognized by ISSF. The International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF), the world governing body of Olympic shooting, recently announced the names of individuals who were approved by the ISSF Judges Committee for ISSF Judges Licenses and Electronic Scoring Target (EST) Licenses. New ISSF Judges Licenses were awarded to 27 USA competition officials including four members of the CMP staff, Matthew Carroll, Brad Donoho, James Hall and Katie Harrington. In addition, six USA competition officials received coveted Electronic Scoring Target Licenses. Three of those six, Carroll, Donoho and Harrington, are CMP staff members. ISSF Vice President, Gary Anderson, who recently retired as the CMP's Director of Civilian Marksmanship, offered his congratulations to all of the newly recognized ISSF Judges in the USA, "ISSF Judges and EST Licenses are the most important credentials that a competition official can achieve in international-style shooting; we are proud to see so many USA officials achieving this high level of recognition."
