From when onwards can a London 2012 quota place be won?

Post by Alexander »

The question does not so much pertain to me, but to an African friend...

From which date onward can quota places for the London Olympics 2012 be gained? Am I correct in understanding that this year's (20th to 28th March 2012) African Continental Championships for example would not yet be eligible, because their date is farther away from the London Olympic Games than 2 full years?

Thanks, Alexander

I 'thought' the first quota places available could be won in the July world championhips in Munich. I would however advise you look at the ISSF website, I'm sure it mentions it.

<edit> Just checked and the above is correct - quote;

"The World Championship is going to be the most important competition of the 2010 season, with more than 2300 shooters participating. The Championship is regarded as an important step on the road to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, as the first Olympic Quota Places will be awarded during the event. "

After that championship in July, how many competitions are there for people to earn olympic spots and how many spots are there at each competition?

Unfortunately the ISSF website is only listing YOG quotas at the moment.
