Ten U.S. Shotgun Shooters to Compete at Cairo World Cup May 3-9
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 1, 2009) - The first ISSF World Cup of the season for Shotgun kicks off on this Sunday, May 3 in Cairo, Egypt. Ten U.S. shotgun shooters will be competing in Cairo including 2008 Olympians Jeff Holguin (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and Sean McLelland (Mission, Texas).
The Women’s Trap final will be held on May 3, while the Men’s Trap final will be on May 4. Representing the U.S. in Women’s Trap will be U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) member and 2008 World Cup USA bronze medalist Joetta Dement (Renton, Wash.) and Rachael Heiden (Clinton, Mich.). Jacob Turner (Richland, Wash.) and USAMU member Ryan Hadden (Pendleton, Ore.) will be shooting the Men’s Trap event.
Men’s Double Trap will be contested on May 6 with USAMU teammates Holguin and Josh Richmond (Hillsgrove, Pa.) competing for a spot on the podium. Holguin finished in fourth place, just out of medal contention, in the Double Trap event at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and was also the 2008 World Cup USA bronze medalist.
The Skeet events will round out the competition May 8-9 with Amber English (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Caitlin Connor (Winnfield, La.) competing for the title in Women’s Skeet and 2008 Olympian McLelland, along with BJ Blanchard (Vidor, Texas) vying for their first ISSF World Cup medals in Men’s Skeet.
