It was brought up in a ISSF meeting sometime in the last few years. I never heard the details, but the idea was quickly shelved until after the 2012 Olympics. The argument for keeping pants is to prevent injury, specifically to the lower back, during training. The argument to get rid of them is that scores have gotten too high because of them.

The ISSF only brings in changes to the rule book in January of the year following the Olympic games. So there should be no major changes for the next four years. Well, 3 years 7 months... ish

Is this about wearing pants while shooting, or is it about shooting pants for sport or self defense? Or using pants as targets?

dont tell me we are going to have to shoot in our undies we'll freeze over here on a more serious note i didnt think shooting pants were allowed the same with boots that support the ankles i'm sure we cant wear them i but i could stand corrected

There have been only minor changes to the rifle rules this year.
I believe that some of the Thune pants will run foul of a re-interpretation of the thickness regulations. Possibly something to do with a plastic label position when used with a belt (not entirely sure)
As far as I'm aware there have been no changes to the rules, in regard to boots.

It was a few years ago now when a rumour spread that the ISSF were looking at shooting pants and whether they should be allowed in the standing position. I emphasise that it was a rumour.

More recently the ISSF from what i was told are concerned that there is a health and safety issue [back problems] especially for youngsters if pants are banned. The underlying reason apparently for banning shooting pants was one of several measures being considered to make the 60 shot match harder because at world class level the scores are so high. God help us mortal shooters if they make it harder.
I personally don't think they will ban them, but they may well decide on a more flexible and thinner material?
So far, the ISSF have said nothing so treat as a rumour.
