Difference between Ruger MKIII512 and PMKIII512 ?

Post by Gl17oxford »

I am just starting in Bullseye Pistol. I would like to buy a pistol that will last me for a few years.

Is there any preference between the Ruger PMKIII512 and the Ruger MKIII512? Both are 5 1/2 inch bull barrell, one is "regular" Ruger format, the "P" version is 22/45 format. And on Ruger's website there is a $100 difference in MSRP.

Is one preferable over the other for BE shooting?

I started with a Ruger and can tell you you should buy a used one with the trigger and sear upgrade all ready. It will save you some money. I went the new route and regretted it as I upgraded much faster then I thought I would.

HI, in general, the 22/45 version is better suited for bullseye for the simple reason that the 45 of 22/45 means that it has a similar grip to a 1911. Other than that, they are really no different. If I had to do it again, I'd get the 22/45, but then I didn't do research, I just wanted a .22LR pistol and didn't really care which one.

I essentially have one of each, a KMK512 Mark II and the equivalent 22/45 Mark III model. I bought the 22/45 because I thought it would be more appropriate for use with a dot due to the lower weight. I like it a lot, but the 22/45 grip frame is too thin for my taste, and you have no grip options.

I like the regular Mark III frame better, I think I can get a better grip solution (plus, although I like the lighter weight of the 22/45, I can't shoot it any better).
