Rear sight for prone small bore 50m

Post by GrandRifles »

Hello,

I want to replace my old Walther rear sights with new ones, specifically for prone shooting at 50m smallbore. Could you recommend the best options? I noticed that the Centra Spy sights are quite popular in the World Cup. However, I couldn't find any details regarding the difference between the short and long versions. Any advice?

Yes, the Centra Spy has becone very popular over the past fifteen years. As far as I'm aware the onky difference is that the long Spy has two clamps while the short Spy has one. If you want a really firm fit, or need to slide the sight way back then get the long, otherwise I don't think it would matter.

There is a Spy BR that has even finer clicks.

I have one of the 'Spy' sights. Height of them is a factor driving the rest of the system.

Maybe OK for my 2013 in a 3P stock, but maybe not so much for my old 1411 prone rifle...

Or vice versa ...

No idea as to the accuracy of the adjustments, and backlash. Likely not as good as a Warner ... no idea yet from real experience as to whether the Centra's I have are as good ...

'Warner... if you can use that 'high power style....

Made now by a guy on the High Power forum. Look for 'Mudcat'.

Why would the height be a problem for prone? Do you mean you have concerns that the windage turrets, which are mounted very low, could foul on the bolt? I know a few prone shooters who are happy with the Spy, none shooting a 1411 though.
