I just recently got into 10m air pistol, and I'm already hooked! I have a pistol on special order but the manufacture time is 12-16 weeks and I really don't know what to do with myself while I wait

Fortunately the club I attend has a number of air pistols available for use in the meantime but it feels like every day passes so slowly.

I would have thought that an increase in interest in the sport after the Olympics would have made more guns available on the secondary market but I couldn't find any- perhaps I just looked in the wrong places. Im surprised that most places don't keep these pistols in stock, I suppose at the end of the day Olympic air pistols just aren't as popular as other shooting sports?

I am a very casual AP shooter, but I suspect that any kind of decent pistol occupies a pretty small niche market. It seems to me that THIS website, and several others, generally have a pretty fair selection of used pistols if one is willing to be a bit patient.

Wouldn't you expect the exact opposite? As in the people already in the sport selling gear doesn't suddenly increase. But the demand from new people would empty the second market quicker and also increase the already existing scarcity in the new market.

Which pistol do you have to wait 12-16 weeks for?

One problem with "stocking" high end air pistols is that the cylinders are constantly losing value due to the 10 year rule. If you get a pistol with 2 cylinders, and both of them are 6 months old, that's a 5% hit on $400 worth of cylinders. People aren't used to buying "new" equipment that has already lost value, and are likely to complain. I don't know of any dealers that will discount their pistols due to old cylinders.

Ah that's interesting about the cylinder lifespan. It makes sense then why there wouldn't be a stock, also the point about everything being bought out *because* of the Olympics checks out.

I decided to go with Feinwerkbau, but if I wanted to get a Morini the wait time is 6-10 weeks, at least at the site that I found that sells them here in Canada.

I did find a site that seems to have Steyr EVO10s in stock but I found it after I already placed the order.

I've been trying out a 20 year old FWB Model 2 at my club and I actually really like it so even though I'm looking forward to having my own gun I'm having a blast.

New toys are always fun! If the FWB 2 works for you, you might want to get yourself one. It will not handicap you in any way, and you'll have lots of dollar bill "stuffers" for the topless joint left over. Married? It will work on "herself" as well.
