10m air Rifle - Release of compressed air without pellet

Post by Beta »

Many shooters have the habit of releasing compressed air from their rifle without putting any pellets. They normally do this before their shoot. What is the reason behind such action?
Will this action have any effect on the gun? release of compressed air at such high pressure(approx. 200kPa) without it hitting any object to transfer the force of the propelling gas. The sudden discharge of the air from high to low pressure, will it damage the gun?

this is done by owners of CA guns to "warm up" the regulator if the gun has been sitting for some time. If the gun is in the daily use its probably not necesary but if it has been sitting for some time, its just a chance to get things moving like they are supposed to before starting your sighters. No harm is done by this. Its just ari going down the barrel. Yuor concern relates to the mantra of you can't dry fire airguns, which is mostly true of most airguns, but not true at all in the case of of most match airguns, certainly not CA ones
