Screwing on the tank only opens the tank valve, so firmness has no part in pressure.
Screw the tank in to be hand firm only, the O rings do the sealing. This allows high pressure
into the pressure regulator and pre-charge chamber.
The pistol pressure is controlled by the spring pile in the pressure regulator, adjustable
only by gunsmith/factory (changing pile).
Pellet velocity is controlled by spring hammer strike on poppet valve.

Agree with David - not too tight. Also the aluminum threads can gall, so I like to lube the threads (only) with a thin film of silicone grease
