MONTHLY AP LEAGUE APRIL 2021

Post by siordian1 »

Another good month has been shot. Did you get your covid shot too?

As usual, shoot what you like as often as you like. I will use the high score.

Have a good April.

Got my replacement 4mm front sight today, installed it, and like it a bunch. Used it for the last three targets. The original Morini sight is 5mm. My prior AP was a FWB 65 which has a 4mm sight. Just prefer the skinner sight picture.

Got my first Covid shot 1/7, second 2/4. Live in WV and they have their act together as the National Guard was activated to cover health folks first, then nursing home residents. Thank goodness our governor is not an idiot like the NY moron.

The first "match" I shot since switching to double-breath aiming AND sub-6 hold three weeks ago. In retrospect doing both simultaneously was a mistake. Still a solid 10 points below my previous average, I'm starting to wonder if it was worth it.

the freETarget still has some small problems with detection when shots are hole in hole (in paper targets). shot 20 shots per paper target. actual score is 3-4 points higher

Pros: Started shaky but managed to kick into gear and find the flow. Had little stability as seen by the low number of x’es, but managed trigger control for a good (for me) score.
Cons: with five shots left I realized I was doing really well (for me) and naturally it fell apart. Need to work on this mental aspect.

All in all happy, a few more in the 50’s and I have found a new level.

It was new gun month. I stepped up from the IZH-46 to my dream gun the Steyr LP10E. Unfortunately it didn't buy me the extra ten points I was hoping for. ;^)

After about 100 shots to get things dialed in with an initial set-up I shot a:

547 - 93, 94, 91, 90, 92, 87

92, 98, 97, 96, 95, 97= 575
Walther LP 500
Meisterkugeln 7gr
Sub 6 Hold
M, 44

This month has been pretty consistent so far, with most scores falling in the 570-572 range. Finally broke through a bit and shot a 575. Probably could have gone for a new PR if I hadn't started off so poorly. I almost always have to give myself at least 10 shots before my hold calms down. Obviously there's a warmup period at a match, but I usually just start recording scores as soon as I begin practice. Even though I shot three higher scores last month (577x2, 576), my shooting this month has remained much more consistent, with fewer lower scored matches.

I wonder how many practice shots is takes for most of the World Cup finalists to settle in. Also, might it be accomplished via dry fire?

Good question. My guess is they get maybe 10-15 minutes or so.
Dry fire may work to start...? I feel like I'm not as advanced as I need to be when it comes to dry firing. I shoot a perfect 600 every time when I do dry fire drills. (meaning, my brain and body still know the difference between dry and live fire)

IIRC, they get 15 minutes for practice/sighting. I still wonder how many shots most will take to settle in. I doubt they would need as many practice shots to settle in as one nowhere near their level of expertise.

Not done much this month and my circuit board has broken which is quite an expensive fix. Might have another go with the Walther 400 this weekend.
