3D Scanning for Position Coaching

Post by sbillington »

I was looking for a good way to capture position shooting for the purposes of coaching and feedback as well as training other coaches. Here I used a $200 Intel Realsense camera and a free app to scan one of my sons as a way to show him the errors he's making in offhand (BB shooting) Is this worthwhile or are there other ways to do this besides just photos? To open the file, you just need a wrl viewer or the 3Dviewer app in windows 10. I also like the file format, because it is just a 3d scan without the image and maintains privacy. It's also worth a 1000 photos.

Targettalk won't let me copy the vrml file in. But, you can download it at the link above.

The windows 10 3d viewer is here:

By looking at him at the time, I couldn't easily tell the issues. But afterwards it's pretty clear that he's making a hip twist relative to his feet--which should be lined with the target--and doesn't have the gun coming across his body enough.
