Steyr LP5 air leak

Hello all,
After a number of years in a closet, this lightly used LP5 CA has developed a leak. The short story is both cylinders hold air just fine. It's when they are fully screwed onto the pistol the leak begins.
As best as I can tell (by feel), the air is coming back through the firing mechanism and out through both sides of the channel that carries the magazine. I was concerned that the leak was so big that the system would not cycle. That's not the case as I just ran multiple 5 shot dry fire strings with it. The pistol didn't seem to notice there was a leak since it advanced the dry fire magazine normally. I have not fired pellets through it yet.
I contacted a factory repair company, and I was told I would have to send it to them and expect a repair bill of $200.00 or so. My questions are: 1) does anyone have a good guess of what's going on? and 2) is this something I can fix with the correct part(s)?
Looking forward to some suggestions.
TIA
Stan
