Hi all!

I just purchased a used Anschütz 2002 CA air rifle. I am totally new to offhand 10m style shooting. I am not new to airguns, just the dedicated 10m rifle and offhand shooting.

The rifle came with a Centra rear aperature with an adjustable iris and filter for color. The iris is easily adjustable. Changing the color on the filter is difficult. When I try to rotate it it’s stiff and I end up loosening the iris from the actual base of the sight where it threads in. My guess is that it either wasn’t installed properly or maybe it might need some maintenance to make the color change easier?

Does anyone have a similar sight that could describe or post an image of how this aperature is when properly installed? There are two rings that seem to be there to be able to lock them together so that the iris stays in place when rotating the filter setting?

The rifle also came with a sight extender (bloop tube?) and extra weights. Is that extension just to extend the sight radius? What is the benefit of extending the sight radius? I’m trying to read and learn so maybe my terminology is off so hopefully that makes sense.

For now I have removed the sight extender and weights and I am shooting the rifle like that. Should I be shooting it like this or is there a benefit to adding the extended front sight and weight?

Ok, one more question....

I have read that the air cylinder should be removed and the air pressure in the gun released after shooting. Is this really necessary? I leave my other pcp air rifles charged and I have not had any issues. In fact it seems that it’s recommended to leave them charged but I read that this Anschutz should be left uncharged.

Well, I guess not many out ther with these rifles to comment on?

I received my fill adapters from Champions Choice today along with 2 tins of their store branded wadcutter pellets. I got one in 4.49 and 4.50 head size. I have been shooting domed JSB 7.3 grains with good results at 25 yards. My main purpose with this rifle is to practice standing offhand at 50 feet. I think the wadcutters should punch the target better and not lose accuracy at that short distance. We’ll see.

The adapters are the Anschutz to DIN and then a DIN to foster. I am filling with a hand pump. I can tell you that these smaller volume cyclinders for the Anschutz are easier ti fill with a pump compared to the 480 Cf bottle on my FX. Ha ha ha! I’m just getting warmed up and their filled. I love it. I have read that it’s supposed to get around 300 shots on a fill or thereabouts. That’s a lot of shooting for such a small effort.

I also just discovered that I already have a walnut blank in the shop. I am planning on making a walnut stock for the Anschutz and, using all the hardware from the current blue laminated stock, on it. I think that it should be a nice touch.

If you want to shoot 10m competition and stick to the international rules you need to look up ISSF 2017 rule book and check the sight radius and new stock dimensions.
The longer sight radius is more accurate but there is a max dimension from front sight to rear of action which I think is 85cm. If the extension doesnt take you beyond that then keep it on.
Check Centra about the iris but if you can post a photo or model number maybe someone can assist.

I looked at the Centra website and I didn’t see anything there. I used their online contact form asking about some help, manual, link, anything. That was this past week. No repsonse from them yet.

Thanks for the heads up on the rules. I don’t plan on any organized competition but one never knows. I should familiarize myself with the rules anyhow. It sure couldn’t hurt.

Your problem may be that the lock ring on the front of the peep is not tightened properly. The Peeps come with a small spanner to tighten this. run the lock ring hard onto the base of the sight and tighten.

I figured that was somewhat the case. There are two rings/cones on the threaded portion of the iris where it threads into the base of the sight. The way that it was, was that they were installed cones pointing towards each other and the large side was contacting the base of the sight body. It was locked and made adjusting the sights difficult because of the contact of the ring/cone on the body of the sight, the main outer housing, not just where it threads in the sight. I knew that probably shouldn’t be the case.

I flipped the rings/cones so that they nestled together and so the pointed/smaller diameter of the ring/cone was towards the sight body where it threads and keeps the larger diameter towards the rear of the rifle on the iris body. There are two notches in the outer portion of the two rings on opposite sides from one another. I am guessing that is where the spanner wrench would engage the rings to tighten them, locking them together. The twist is that it seems like the two rings locked together is what makes the the tension for the selector ring. I’ll just have to fiddle with it I guess so that the selector wheel is just tight enough to hold the sight together but not too tight that when turning the selector wheel counterclockwise that the iris threads out of the sight base. It seems like such a spendy little upgrade would have a more secure and precise way the mount it. I don’t really want to use a thread lock on it to keep it in place because I may want to change it sometime in the future.

I’ll get it figured out.
