Not a owner, but my Walther LG400E share the same electronic trigger system. As it turns out the first generation of battery they use is faulty. Now they have replaced it with another kind. So if you are planning on getting an SSPE, keep that in mind, especially if you are buying new old stock. You may want to open up the unit to examine if the battery is the new type or old type.

Can anyone describe the difference in the batteries and when the updated battery became standard issue.

This a pic kindly provided to me from Walther service when i asked them about our club's future ssp-e. as you can see the type of the battery is the same. i think they changed supplier. a google search reveals that it doesn't cost much and there are many china companies producing them. But you must be careful to get from a reliable source with the correct connector. Of course the best source IS the Walther service :)

The difference between LG400e and SSPE is how the battery is seated to accommodate the limited space inside the action area. I won't be surprised the KK500 will use the same unit but also redesign how the battery is seated.
In my case for the unit, the old battery failed to charge correctly and then died altogether. It was on its third charge when it gives up the ghost, after my student complain that it won't fire.
What is the exact type and spec of new battery that I should look for in Ebay or google? I know it is a typical USB rechargeable for mini drones. But they are many types of them and you have to have the exact spec to have the right one. Can you post a Ebay link?
Sorry for hijacking the thread but I figure since the unit is the same it will not hurt to ask here. Walther did not provide me with extra batteries when they return the unit but I understand it is business.

Obviously there are fewer SSPE owners out there than I imagined.

People tend to buy the pistols they see most in the finals.
So in 25m they chose Pardini or whatever guns their club has.
A few try the odd ones like SSP (m or e), the aw93 etc.
Ιn my country most still use the gsp as it has replacement barrels and the old ones are considered bullet proof. So one gun 3 calibers.
We had some FAS, very little of the Fiocchi-Pardini, ohh and a couple of izh35.
Nowadays in our rf matches we have SSP but they are not liked as the GSP(most thought they would be problem free as the gsp but it was not the case), pardini's are upping their numbers, there are some mg2 and that's it.
