If I want to shoot in the iron sight class, but only have open classification. Do I sign in as Unc/Master, or as my open classification Marksman?

http://compete.nra.org/documents/pdf/co ... l-book.pdf - Rule 19.6
19.6 Assigned Classification - A competitor who has an earned classification (a classification obtained through a Score Record Book or an Official NRA Classification Card) for one type of competition in the grouping listed below will be assigned this same classification in any other type in which the competitor is not classified in the same group:
(a) Outdoor Pistol
(b) Indoor Pistol
(c) Police Combat
(d) Action Pistol
(e) International Pistol (Free, Air, Center, Rapid Fire or Standard)
If a competitor has a classification in more than one type in the list, the higher classification shall be used. In the second tournament in the new type, the Score Record Book is used rather than the assigned classification.
Through that rule, you can use your Marksman open classification for production/metallic (since you do not hold a classification for production or metallic).

In answer to the original question.

Iron Sight is a category, not a class.

You would enter the match with whatever class you are in, MK, SS, EX, etc.

To be specific and according to the actual rules we are discussing "Divisions". The Divisions are Production, Metallic and Open.

Read and know what you are actually shooting. For example a 1911 with open sights can compete in Open or Metallic Division, but not Production.

Be sure to read the entire rule and have fun.
