Sight set for 1803

Post by GGibson »

I have an Anschutz 1803 with a very old redfield style rear sight. The rear sights tend to bind when moved along the rail and probably don't actually match the dove tail. I want to replace these sights but hopefully keep the new sights when I move up to a 1900 series some day.

Looking at Champ Choice I see 6834/10 set for 1900 series, and 1800/10 set. Does anyone know if the 1900 series sight will work on the 1803 rifle??

I have no problem moving my scope and irons between the 1813 and 1913, but I am using rails. The 1813 is marked in graduations on top while the 1913 is not. The 1913 is drilled and tapped for scope blocks. But other than that, the dimensions of the groove appear to be identical and I have used older models of Anschutz sights on a 1913. The difference is probably the front sight. The 1913 has a groove in the muzzle bulb and the 1813 has a higher unertl style block. From photos it appears to be the same with the 1803 & 1903.

No the 1900 sight set will not work on an 1803. The rearsight will fit, as Anschutz have never changed the receiver dovetail. However the mount for the foresight is not the same; your 1803 has a dovetail block on the barrel for the foresight. A 1903 (and the 1907 and 1913 Match 54 rifles) have the dovetails cut directly into the barrel; these dovetails are much less deep than your block, so the corresponding slot in the foresight is more shallow - too shallow for an 1803.

If you need a foresight for the 1803, buy the 1800 sight set, so you get the correct foresight tunnel. The good news is that an 1800 foresight takes the same inserts and accesories as a 1900 tunnel.

If you already had a foresight for the 1803, buy the 1900 set and keep the foresight aside until you need it.
