I have been offered a Unique 2000U for $800US in good condition with one magazine. Do you think this is a fair price?
Pros: Beautifully made, well balanced, accurate. Cons: .22 short

Thanks for the help........Bill

.22 short isn't used any more in ISSF competitions.
So, if you intend to use it as a competition gun, it's no longer allowed.

Going by Tycho answer the 800$US seems a "bit" high!

I would probably go 225 if it was a nice one.

Thanks, guys.

I know shorts aren't legal for your sport, and I'm certainly not a collector. I'm a NRA Bullseye shooter who happens to like the ergonomics of European guns...and the rules have a restriction on how long the bullet can be, but not how short :-)

Thought it might be a good pistol for indoor slow, timed, and rapid competition. Perhaps it would be, but apparently not at the asking price.

I think I'll pass it up.

There are a number of indoor NRA bullseye shooters in the Boston area that shoot old rapid fire .22 short pistols. That said, the Unique is VERY hard to get parts for, so it's not the best option, especially at that price.

No reason not to feel good about it - I've got a bunch of very nice .22 short RF pistols, almost all state-of-the-art guns from the early 2000s... can't beat the price they're going for nowadays... no matter they aren't competition legal anymore, they're fun to shoot, technically interesting, and in a few years, only us oldies will remember the good old times when you could practice 4 second series without ruining your trigger finger for precision...
