Anny Precise stock bedding screws
ok guys.... need a little help... I have a junior shooter that has just bought a 1407 and a 1918 precise stock- seperately... need the bedding screws for the 1918 as you can imagine the 1407 wood stock bedding screws are way to long...hoping that someone can give me some insight.. I know the screws are small threads metric.... but am in need of the length as well as diameter for the 1918 precise stock bedding screws as the stock was purchased w/o screws... I know I could uses washers if a bit long... Looking to maybe check out a few hardware stores/ fastenal etc ....that carry a variety of mertric screws to see if they match up??? Any thoughts and or advice I would appreciate it
Re: Anny Precise stock bedding screws
Odds,
You are correct, those are fine threads on the bedding screws. The threads are M6-0.75 (6mm bolt diameter with threads every 0.75mm) the typical thread is going to be M6-1.0. I would be stunned if you found M6-0.75 bolts in the hardware store. Fastenal might be able to help but you are definitely into specialty categories.
As far as length, I can't help you there. If you used the depth measuring end of a dial caliper you might get an idea of distance from the bottom of the head of the bolt to the bottom of the bedding channel then add say 3-4mm for engagement into the action. At the end of the day, expect to have to trim the bolts a little bit to keep them from bottoming in holes in the action.
Frankly, I would call Neal Stepp at I.S.S. (817) 595-2090 or Champions Shooters (800) 821-4867 or Champions Choice (800) 345-7179 and see about simply ordering the appropriate bedding screws. I know that Anschutz parts can be rather spendy but the time, aggravation and possibly gas and postage you save will likely be worth the extra cost.
Regardless of where you get the bolts, even if they are the Anschutz part, make sure the bolts are not bottoming in the action when torqued down. If they are the action will not bed properly and the gun will not shoot.
Cheers,

Mcmaster Carr is the place to go for what you need in the USA

Re: Anny Precise stock bedding screws
Unfortunately in this case two usual suspects for general fasteners: McMaster Carr and MSC both let you down.
Decent selection of M6X1 but no M6X0.75.
They are out there, but you gotta work to find the M6 fine thread in the US.

Re: Anny Precise stock bedding screws
remmy,
OK, my mistake, I did not look under the alloy steel section, and for whatever reason my general search of Mc-Carr did not pull those up when looking for M6 threads. Looks like about 9 different items out of lord knows how many different screws Mc-Carr offers so I will blame it on the search engine. ;-)
To get there I had to go to the McMaster Carr website then search on one of the part numbers offered.
The other thing I will point out to general audiences, the listed strength on this steel will be plenty to hold as single shot smallbore action in place.
As the OP noted this was an older 14xx action do be careful and do not get too frisky with bedding torque as the threads on the front action screw on the older actions were known for pulling out after repeated cycles. No more than 45-50 in-lbs of torque on the screws.
Cheers
