I just picked up a six year old (current model) Walther GSP Expert, with the receiver finished in what looks like some sort of brushed aluminum coating (although I don't know what it really is).
I have noticed some small spots where the finish has flaked off. Has anyone else had similar problems with their late model GSP?
The blue finish is anodized aluminum, if it is coming off it is probably because it has been bumped or scratched against something, nothing to worry about for a 6 year old pistol wear & tear , my GSP expert has a dent on the front were the previous owner dropped it ,

To be clear, I was referring to problems with the paint-like finish to the frame, no the blue on the recoil moderator on the front of the barrel. Is this common with the new model GSP?
The GSP frame comes with a black finish.
What it sounds like to me, is someone sprayed the frame with some type of paint or metal finish.
If not prepared properly before spraying, you will get the peeling you describe.
What is the color under the brushed aluminum?
I saw one photo with the finish you describe.
I have never seen one like that before.
All the other photos are a black frame, like my GSP.
It appears to be a two part frame, mine is one solid piece.
I suggest you call Walther, and talk to them, with your concern.
Hello PWF...I know the finish you are referring to and unfortunately it is not up to what you would expect from Walther. It is delicate at best and is prone to chipping and even flaking without any reason.
My suggestion is to touch up the chips/flaking .
Here is a photograph showing the patterned painted surface as on both .22 and .32 gsp frames. The surface could be mistaken for vinyl however I am sure it is painted. It needs to be treated very carefully or blemishes are the result.
While I take some solace in noting that apparently the problem is not unique to me, I must say it is a major disappointment to see such a lapse in quality from Walther, who normally have a reputation for a superlative product.
