Anschutz 19XX actions/stocks

Post by Shifty »

Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new to this forum as a member, but I've been reading through it's pages for a while now.

I'm looking to purchase a small bore target rifle for 50m prone - I don't intend to shoot 3p as a personal injury prevents me from kneeling and I have a (what I imagine to be very basic) question - Are the Anschutz 19XX barreled actions interchangeable between the various Anschutz 19XX model stocks? Will a 1907 action fit a 1913 stock or a 1913 action fit a 1914 stock for example?

At the moment I'm thinking of having a 1913 action in a 1914 stock - I'm small (5'3 and 140lbs) and like the slightly smaller dimension of the 1914 stock but like the weight of the 1913 system! I've been target shooting for years and I'm only just in the position to purchase my own rifle. I'm lucky enough to have a 50m range only 2 miles from my house and plan to shoot 2 - 3 times a week.

Thanks in advance,

Lee.

Lee,

yes the 19xx rifles are largely interchangeable. This is true of most earlier models as well. A 1913 barrel will drop straight into a 1912 stock (the predecessor of the 1914), or a 1907 stock, and 1907 actions will go in 1911, and 1913 stocks.

The only caveat is if the stock has been epoxy bedded, and the bedding extends under the barrel. Although a 1907 barrel is thinner than a 1913 barrel (22mm vs 24mm), it has a conical nut at the breech end IS that is wider. So unless the bedding compound is relieved, the 1907 barrel won't fit. Obviously a 1913 barrel won't fit into 1907 barrel bedding without work.

Just had this thought - will the stock come with the necessary bedding bolts for the Match 54 action?

Shifty,

Usually the stock will come with bedding bolts of the proper length for that stock.

While not universal, most people consider the bolts to be part of the stock when selling or trading.
