I only have 27 (8.2M) feet or so to train in. The target height for 10M is 1.4M or 55.11" (measured between the ground and the center of the target) To match the reduced scale, I'm thinking of lowering my target to 45.19". (55.11 X .82) Reason: Sometimes, I shoot a little high at the beginning of shooting at 10M. It takes a while to settle back to the center. I'm thinking of building better muscle memory by training at a more realistic height. I hold sub six.

Has anyone else tried this? If so, where did you set your target height to?

Better shooters than I will give their opinions shortly.
I have 2 reduced dry fire targets on my office wall for free and air pistol.
They are both placed at the legal height.
To be honest I would leave them at that to practice so when you go to a match nothing changes in your hold.

I have some tequila in my system right now so I can't give you the answer, but I know that I figured out a trigonometric formula in the past showing the right height for any distance. Maybe you could search for posts by "Ricardo". If not, I can try and dig it up at a future date.

Here is what I do - at the range aim at the target as you normally would, wherever that may be. Get a helper to measure from the floor to the underside of your grip/barrel or anything else on the gun with a tape measure. When you get home hold the gun at that level and move the target to achieve your aim point, this can take two helpers to get it right. I have much more confidence in this method opposed to calculations.
Incidentally, my dry fire target is a magnetic on a whiteboard, allows easy moving for different discipline and is a nice white background for my old eyes.

Going to have to change my opinion on my previous post.
Never really paid much attention, but you got me checking it out.

I am now going to place my dry firing targets higher on the wall to compensate for the difference between 10 meters and 10 feet.

Instead of 51" they are now raised to 66".

Using your Formula, here we go...

Assumptions:

EH = 1.77M (70")
SD = 8.2M (27')
Target height is currently set to 55.11" or really close to 55 7/64"

Formula:

TH = [(10.00 - SD)/10] [EH - 1.40] + 1.40

Where TH is the adjusted center of the target, SD is the shooting distance, and EH is the height of my eye
when in the shooting position.

For 8.2M SD the formula reduces to:

TH = [(10.00 - SD)/10] [EH - 1.40] + 1.40

TH = [(10.00 - 8.2)/10] [1.77 - 1.40] + 1.40

TH = 0.18(1.77 - 1.40) + 1.40

0.18 X 0.37 = 0.066 + 1.40 = 1.46M

1.46M = 57.48"

57.48" - 55.11' = 2.37" higher

Does this look right to you? Maybe I was doing too much Tequila when I was doing this.

Yep, that seems right to me. Thanks for the suggestions! I've been liking Cabo Wabo reposado, and believe it or not, mezcal "El Zacatecano" is probably better than any tequila I've ever tasted. Smoooooooth.
