Walther FP failure history

Can anyone let me know what the problems were with the Walther FP before it was taken off the market. I've read that the electronics were the big letdown. Was it an intermittent problem or did they fail completely without any sign anything was wrong? Also, any history records on serial numbers would be helpful so I can see what I am dealing with.

I thought it was a real different design. It took some getting used to---the mechanism was easy to use and the grips placed the centre of the barrel aligned with the centre of the hand. Recoil was never felt and the barrel movement on "recoil" was almost non-existent. I did not own the gun it belonged to a close friend who let me shoot it for our Winter Free and Air Pistol postal league. As far as the trigger was concerned I believe but cannot recall the trigger as electric or not. Electric triggers back then where, at best, very cranky, the exception being the , then brand new, Morini 162E. The Pardini electric triggers were also flaky, I had a constant two way traffic to Don Nygord with the electronic units on my Schumann RF Electric trigger. "Doc"

I had an FWB 90 that I sold after the electronic trigger failed twice.

As for the Walther, I recall back then the triggers were failing, but don't recall the details.

I remember seeing a post or two regarding a guy who was looking for the FPs so he could rebuild the electronics. Do a search.
