10m air, front sight diopter? lens on FWB601 air

My used FWB601 came with a lens in the front sight. it has some slight magnification, I have no idea how much, small but noticeable.

I am under the impression any type of lens in not allowed in club shooting. (my local German club competes in the state, maybe national? etc...)
Is this true?

If this is not allowed why did it have it? It's obviously factory, it's nice coated optics. But who does get to use them?

I am going to assume that this lens screws into the front of the front sight tunnel.

While you make the assumption this is factory that is probably not the case. The front sight tunnel on most FWB601 takes a M18 thread, (Basically 18mm in diameter with a 0.5mm thread pitch)

Anyhow, anyone who make sight accessories will make something to fit the M18 front sight tunnel.

Now, under ISSF rules colored filters and polarizing filters can be mounted in the sights, either front or rear. Any magnification or correction must be worn by the shooter. This does not mean that other leagues shooting under different rules cannot allow such devices to be used.

I expect this is what you have, a rifle that was previous shot under a set of rules other than ISSF that did allow magnification to be mounted to the sight.

Rules vary depending on what organization is sanctioning your competition. Get a copy of the rule book your club uses for matches and keep it in your shooting kit. While you certainly don't need to memorize the rulebook (nor should you try; spend the time training instead), it's a good idea to read through it and familiarize yourself with how the sections are laid out and where you're likely to find rules on various topics. FWIW, the NRA has done a pretty good job of standardizing their various rule book sections, so at least the subject headers are the same (Rule 7.3 is the rule for sights in all the rifle disciplines, by the way).

It may have been used for benchrest air, I I think these may allow foresight lenses.

For US readers this is not the same as normal BR; there;s no bench, and no rest (well not as you know it). It's shot standing, and the rifle is rested on what looks like a 3-P ammo stand, often with a spring loaded top. It's intended for older shooters to carry on competing, hence lens, but without changing the essential character too much.

yes, I should not have said "obviously factory" like it ships stock with a new rifle. Of course it did come from some factory.

I'm going to miss it. I had grown quite fond of bigger looking targets. :(

It may also have been used by a "Senior Shooter" under rule 4.4, allowing up to 1.5 diopter lens in either the front or rear sight.

Pat - rule 4.4 in what rule book? I'm new to this and would appreciate the 1.5 help, but when I search the ISSF rule book I can't find a rule 4.4 dealing with sights or any handicap for us seniors.

Bad news is it has to be declared at registration and takes you out of the finals. I guess it's back to squinting for me!

If you are over 55, and still have a chance at the finals, congratulations, and keep squinting.

Or look into shooting glasses. They don't have to be expensive. I use a pair from$39 Glasses Online, that I got for $25 or so. Single prescription equals my tri-focal lense plus 1/2 a diopter.
