Dear Fellow Shooters,

Jamie Beyerle Gray, USA, has just won this morning the Gold Medal in Women's 3P and in the process, setting two Olympic records.

Jamie is from Lebanon, PA and was coached by Erin Gestl while shooting for Palmyra in the Inter-County Rifle League. She went on to shoot at the University of Alaska.

We are all very proud of Jamie's accomplishment.

Benny, hard to belive this is the same little girl we shot lifesavers with at North End a decade ago!

Congrats Jamie!!!! It seems like only yesterday we were shooting next to one another at Palmyra and playing whiffle ball outside the mods at Camp Perry. An amazing achievement by an unbelievably talented shooter!

And I should also say, congrats to Ms. Furrer, a fellow Buckeye as well. 15th place and only 3 pts out of the final is nothing to sneeze at!

For us older and technologically challenged individuals, what does one need to do to get that black screen to play something? I am, of course, referring to the link you provided for Jamie's video.

By the way, when Erin called me at my business this morning to tell me about Jamie he was as excited as he gets! I can understand his excitement.

Erin devotes most of his free time to his junior shooters and I'd like to thank him for his efforts. He has certainly influenced many shooters, young and old. I include myself in the latter group!

Here are the scores. Four of the eight shooters shot standing scores better or equal to their prone scores, and 6 of 8 shot standing better than or equal to their kneeling (the other 2 were only one point off of this) - how do you do that? Maybe the wind came up a little later in the match as it often does in many locals - which would make kneeling harder, and maybe the light was not quite as good in the early in the day when prone was shot.

What I'd give to be able to shoot a pair of 99's offhand at 50 meters!

I too was happy to see Jamie win gold, she is a class act.

Terrific shooting by this lady! Interesting that the news reported a near capacity crowd at the venue. Maybe things are looking up for the shooting sports.

The finals at the Olympics are indoors. No wind.

In fact it is becoming a requisite to have a Finals Hall for big events.

And yes, My watching of the finals shows the place is full for all the events I have seen.

I was sat directly behind her in qualifying and all I can say is that it was an amazing experience to watch her and the other shooters in her section of the range. Yes the wind was tricky it moved a full 180 degrees more than once during the course of the match catching several shooters out. Jamie never appeared to falter once mentally, nor did all the top 10 girls it was certainly a case of who could read the wind.

Iv got to feel for Sonia P. as she seemed to be very slow in her prone and kneeling stages almost out of time she needed three nines to make the final. Two eights with thirty seconds to go left her dazed and wondering what could have been.

In the finals hall the atmosphere was incredible, there was a fantastic scrap for silver and bronze with only a tenth of a point or so separation for most of the match.

Well done to all the medalists and those that took part it gave a fantastic insight into the mental fortitude needed to operate at that level.
