I have found a reference to 50m Pistol for Women listed in the programme of events for Glasgow 2014.
Anybody else heard of this new event for the Commonwealth Games in 2014 ?
Not sure if it is a typo but I believe that the Australian Coach is making plans to buy a couple of 50m pistols for the women in the squad as soon as the olympics are finished.
Thanks Bruce

Hi Bruce
This is an event that was invented at the last Commonwealth Games Federation meeting in the interests of gender equality.
Before buying 50m pistols for the ladies, I would suggest that he check with the 2014 organisers.
I have heard, and I don't know how true it is, that the are trying to swop it to Standard Pistol for Ladies. That would make a lot more sense as they will already have suitable guns.

I'll be surprised if there won't be a huge campaign against any form of pistol shooting in Glasgow as soon as the antis get hold of it.
Otherwise Standard would make far more sense than 50m pistol.
Or maybe just Rapid Fire for both?

There was a world championship with ISSF Standard Pistol as ladies' discipline once, as I recall. Maybe 1970; David will know the exact date.

I had to look that one up (on the ISSF web site).
You are correct, 1970 - Phoenix.
1st Trim, Judy (AUS)
2nd Vause, Gloria (AUS)
3rd Stoliarova, Nina (URS)

Maybe this inclusion was due to the fact that Phoenix was the WCH when SP was introduced for the first time, and probably they (ISSF) wanted to make it as popular as they could.
