Some help in your quest:

At the OG Tokyo 1964, Markannen must have used a Hammerli 10x, as my old pistol wore the dates 1948, 1952 and 1964 on its right side with the Olympic rings.
At the OG Mexico 1968, Kossykh shot a MU-55
At the OG Munich 1972, Skanaker shot a MU-55 (you stated a TOZ-35)

Addenda:

Out of sheer curiosity, I searched for (and found!) and old Raznoexport catalog dated 1979 I got with my MC-55-1 pistol a long time ago and they declare that UP TO THAT DATE (OG 1980 not having been yet held) MC-55-1 pistols had won the 1968 and 1972 OG's, 1974 and 1978 WCh's; and TOZ-35 pistols had won no OG's and the 1962 Cairo WCh's.

Has to be 16x, since 16x was out at 1992, and 15x was 1980,

There is a pic about Tanyu and his pistol, at Sidney 2000, I'd guess it is his very old 152, since he did not like the 16x.

Yeah, rear sight doesn't look like a 16x, and "surfboard" under the barrel looks like a 15x, too.

Toz 35 did win the FP50

Yes, I was doubtful about the pistol shot by Uwe Potteck to take Gold at Montreal '76.

The article you quote states that it was a TOZ-35, my source was the firm publicizing the pistol, which I supposed should' been the most interested in detailing every and each title won with their make, and they didn't mention THAT gold medal.

In any event, yours is an interesting post and I enjoyed participating, notwithstanding whoever of us (of our sources) is right, if any.

I'm awaiting answers from the curator of the Swiss Rifle Museum. She will know the firearms used in the FP in 1900. The Museum is on vacation this week though, so this will have to wait.

The only photos (with guns) I found of the Gold medalists at the OG Paris 1900 (Karl Roderer) and OG London 1908 (Paul van Asbroeck) with a gun in their guns will not be of any use to find out which one they used.

Roderer (the one at right) holds a pistol shaped like the XIX century duelling pistols, the other shooter in the caption (identity unknown) holds a more conventional-looking FP, Anschutz or Luna-style.

As for van Asbroeck, he is holding an obviously anachronistic Model 1914 Artillery Luger, so this is not the weapon he used at London.

Besides, are you sure about that 1896's Colt?? Because what is known is that the Paine brothers used Colts for the military revolver event, were not admitted to the rapid fire event due to caliber inadequacy and not a word could I find about the gun Summer Paine used in 30 metre FP.

I too originally have my doubts, until I read the Olympic rule book back in the day. Free pistol REALLY is free pistol. It is pistol or revolver with no caliber limitations. Essentially you can shoot whatever you want to bring. Other events are stricter.

Here is the rule for 1908:

III. REVOLVER AND PISTOL SHOOTING.
(j) INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION.
Limited to twelve individual entries from each territory having
separate representation on the International Olympic Committee, or, where no such representation exists, any territory under one and the same sovereign jurisdiction.

Competitors participating must conform as to nationality with Articles
19 and 20 of the General Regulations.
1. Weapon.— Any revolver or pistol with open sights.
2. Ammunition.— Any with metal cartridge case.
3. Distance.— 50 yards.
4. No. of Shots.— Two sighters and sixty shots in ten series of six
5. Target.— White, 0 m. 50 c. diameter ; central black, 0 m. 20 c.
The whole target is divided into ten equal zones, counting from 1 to 10.
6. Position.— Standing; right or left hand, with arm extended.
7. On the afternoon of the day preceding the competition targets will
be at the disposal of competitors for practice.
8. The edge of the shot-hole will determine the value of the shot.

I can contribute also for the RF list.

1936 (Cornelius van Oyen) marked the début of the Walther Olympia.

1948 (Károly Tákács) used the same gun

1952 Tákács again with the Walther Olympia

1956 Petrescu used (AFAIK) the Walther again (or maybe a Hammerli-Walther, as they were licensed to be produced in Switzerland), Cherkasov winning silver using the quickly outlawed Margolin upside-down MTs 3 "Rekord"

1960 William McMillan won using the High-Standard, the only Gold won using an American produced pistol in a postwar OG

1964 Pentti Linnosvuo used what appears in the small caption to be a Margolin (he is the one in the back)

In this other caption, it appears that Linnosvuo pistol is indeed a Margolin.

1976 Norbert Klaar shot a Margolin

1980 Corneliu Ion used a much modifed gun that I can't recognize, hope any other forum member can make it from the picture
