Major emphasis for AP has always been "focus on the front sight, focus only on the front sight, focus on the front sight only" .

My shooting glasses is set up with +0.75 lens. My emphasis has always placed seeing front sight clearly as the utmost goal. Much effort was spent on achieving this effect.

Today, I had the opportunity to try out other lens.

+0.5 was clear, but the front sight clarity take some effort, and is also very fleeting. Not much change in score, 91, 92 as usual.

tried +1.0, front sight looks bigger and is still clear. Shot slightly better 10 series.

tried +1.25, front sight edge is no longer super sharp, but alignment is still easily acquired. Shots seem to go off easier, with less fastidiousness on absolute front sight focus. Follow through is easier, there might be some movement I can not see, I can only go by "feel" now. It felt good with slight front edge with slightest fuzziness. The whole shooting process was smoother, less finicky about the front sight sharpness. Shot many 93, 94, with occasional venture into 96.

So, is seeing absolutely clearly with +0.75, with absolute uncompromising effort on seeing front sight clearly too overly emphasized in AP ?

Could be placebo. You may have been focusing on the fundamentals a little more, or gotten into the groove by the time you got to the sting you thought was better, or....

I'd be interested to hear more after you have a month worth of experience.

Personally, today I redoubled my efforts to focus on Just the front sight and my groups Noticeably shrunk over a 60-shot string. To the point where I had zero conscious awareness of the black bull or where the sights were in relation to the bull. Shots went off easier and results were much improved. I've seen this before, when I jumped from a 550 match score to a 561 match score in 20 days (both registered PTOs) with zero change in equipment.

Just to report my experience with +0.5 +0.75 +1.0 +1.25 lens after shooting with those lens for awhile.

Sharpest with +0.5, but sharpness does not last, over sighting would cause blurriness, have to look away and come back to regain that sharpness.

Most "comfortable" with +1.0, no focus effort at all. Very easy shooting.

Most 10s with +1.25, front sight edge slightest tinge of blur, but easiest to maintain alignment, easiest to hold for follow through. And I do think it does give me more 10s than the other lens.

Now this holds true only if lighting is good. When lighting is poor, lens preference would be going toward less power lens.

But it is true for me that seeing sharpest is not producing best shooting for me. Sharpest front sight actually make me having poor follow through. Slight edge tinge blur creates easiest trigger pull and follow through, with least amount of anxiety. Happy go up to 558 with +1.25.

The sight might have been in various levels of focus (optically), but it sounds like you were still performing the act of focusing (paying attention) to the front sight. Which really is what is meant by "focus on the front sight" as opposed to "focusing on the target". Having the object in clear focus would just make the act of focusing on it (paying attention to it) easier and less fatiguing.

Yes, I am reporting on clarity of the front sight. I AM still focusing on the front sight. In fact, target is almost "non-existent" with +1.25.
