Off-Base Gun Storage

Post by Orion »

I currently live on-base, in which it is mandatory that I store my firearms and ammunition in the armory. I drive to the armory, wait in line, fill out duplicate receipts (which entails everything in my gun box), and have to log what time I will be coming back. The armorers are generally incompetent. It's become a hassle.

Where can I store my guns off-base?

I shoot 3 times a week and can't bother my co-workers several times a week to get my guns out of their safe, nor store them in a outdoor storing facility, because of the humidity here. Also, there aren't any indoor storage facilities in the vicinity.

Yes, I do have my competition guns in a steel, lockable bullseye case.

Please advise before I end up shooting once a week.

Thanks.

I don't know about storage, but I would be careful about storing competition grade guns in a base armory. While in the AF at different bases I stored my hunting and comp guns in the armory as required.
I often checked my cleaned guns out of the armory and almost as often found dirty bores. Remove bolts or trigger groups when checking in guns to hinder anyone wanting to"try" your gun.

My pistols are in a locked Strong Case which I haven't seen any signs of use. Thanks.

Storage

Just a couple of thoughts. Base commander waiver for a safe in housing.
Vehicle trunk storage with secured box in trunk.
Check with any and all law enforcement in the area. Maybe the local
sheriff or police have a building / office/ trunk that you could use.
Maybe a range buddy who shoots alot.
Local law officers may be able to point you to something.
