Anschutz gun case question

So I received my new Precise 9003 yesterday. It is shipped in a nice Plano case that resembles a Pelican case in design. It is actually a nice case, with the o-ring seal etc. I also like that it is relatively short, but when I assembled the rifle, it will not fit in the case unless I take the buttplate off. Why is it so short? Are you supposed to disassemble to transport?
As a side note, this is my second 9003. The first one came is a super cheap "walmart" hard case. It was the type they sell for 10 bucks. This new 9003 also came with the front scope base. I had to buy a base for the first one at an additional cost of 60 bucks, and naturally I had to wait until the part arrived. So I am glad that Anschutz is getting better with their 9003 kit. Overall I am very pleased with the Precise stock. I think it was worth the upgrade for me. I could actually see a Precise 2007 in my future.
