Could red dot shooting help my open sight shooting?

My 10M AP shooting has "plateaued" at about 540.
Just for diversion, I want to get an Ultra-dot for fun.
Just curious, would red dot shooting help my 10M AP shooting at all to break the "plateau"?

I'm just wondering why it should. I would have thought the reverse would be true as it would take you away from training "the real thing".
It certainly does no harm, and is probably beneficial, for shooters to take a break of 4-6 weeks. Other than that though, dabbling with other events or gimmicks is unlikely to be as productive as putting in the hard work on the event you want to do well at.
If you are serious about breaking 540 (and well above) then you need to identify which element(s) of your technique (be they physical or mental) or physique are holding you back and then train to eliminate them as problems.
Remember that 540 is a good score if you are only doing enough work to warrant a 540. Also, not everyone is capable of shooting higher scores than 540. I know many people who might have been able to when they were 30 years younger but in their present circumstances they will not break it.

I will preface this by saying that I shoot very little AP. I am a Bulleye/ Conventional Pistol shooter.
My experience has been just the opposite. Iron sights shooting has definitely helped my shooting with a red dot. At two different Small Arms Firing Schools at Camp Perry, members of the AMU and later members of the panel of distinguished shooters have suggested staying with iron sights until you are a 2600 shooter. I made the commitment a couple of months ago to shoot irons in my Winter league and am practicing both .22 and .45 with irons. Last Thursday I shot my .45 wadgun with a red dot after my usual training session. I had not shot a red dot in two months. I could see an obvious improvement in both hold and trigger control. The resulting targets confirmed what I was seeing/feeling as I shot.
