filling hammerli AP40

Post by yana »

The hammerli's cilinder doesnt have a return valve. When I fill it, than unscrew it fast, the pressure already dropped to 150/160bar. So I miss about 50% of my shots cause I cant use 50% of my filling.
How do yóu solve this with yr AP40's?
Filling >200bars isnt an option with the AP40..

Actually it does or between removing it from the tank and attaching it to the pistol I'm sure it would be fully empty. Are you using a scuba tank or pump? I assume you are removing the tank from the adapter not removing the adapter from the source first.

Filling Hammerli AP40

Hello,
First bear in mind that the Hammerli cylinders have a fine tread so handle them with care.
Second for your problem: I suppose you use the original adapter from Hammeli, the one with a screw on the side, because they also sell aluminum adapters that don't have that screw. With this last adapter it is very hard to unscrew the the cylinder. In fact I ruined my cylinder with the alu adapter.
When using the original brass adapter: after having filled from a scuba tank or with a hand pump UNSCREW the valve on the adapter first. Only a little amount of air will escape, then unscrew the cylinder.
It is absolutely normal that some pressure is lost when unscrewing the cylinder and fitting it on the pistol, but the amount should be insignificant.
Hoping to have been of some help.

I'm using a scuba, and I ónly have the silver coloured, aluminium, adapter with it. No brass one. Indeed, its quite hard to unscrew once cilinder is filled.

Oh, I forgot, I unscrew the cilinder from the adapter. The adapter is on the scuba directly. When I use a fill set between it, with a hose, (which I usually do cause many gun manometers arent reliable), its empties fully upon bleeding air from the fill set.(it empties with the fill set) So I concluded it doesnt have a return valve.

Too bad you're stuck with the white adapter.
I can only advise you to try to get a messing (yellow) type with the depressor screw. You can try if Umarex still sells them, but I doubt it.
A possibility could be if you show the silver adapter to a precision mechanic that he can modify the adapter.
My guess is that he should drill out the cylinder site of the adapter deep enough so you can screw the cylinder on the adapter without it loses air. and drill a hole in the adapter that can be shut off with a screw. Or if you always use a hose for filling then that screw wouldn't be necessary as the screws of the hose will take the load.
It may sound messy, but it is actually fairly easy to do.
Good luck.

Sorry Spencer, but are you sure that that adapter will fit the Hammerli cartridge? I don't think so. If you look a little further down de web page Walther shows the aluminum adapter as well, specifying that is for Hammerli AP40. That's the one that cause all the troubles.
I have both adapters and the important difference is the depth of the cylinder entrance.
In my opinion: that's where all the problems come from.
Regards.

It wont fit, the walther adapter is a male one, whereas the hammerli is a female one. (= the hammerli cilinder has a male, the walthers has a hole).
But thnx for thinking along!

I haven't had any issues with mine. I remove the cylinder first, then remove the adapter from the scuba tank.
