Standard Jacket Sizes

Post by mapletune »

I'm going to order my first set of shooting apparel soon. Since money is an issue, I'm going for Standard Sized jackets etc. However, as you may have guessed, and as with most people, my measurements don't exactly match that of any Standard Size.

What are the most important measurements? The ones you cannot get wrong!

Chest, Waist, Hip, Arm Length, Inseam Length, etc...

I'm guessing it's OK to get a larger Hip jacket and modify the jacket yourself. (Cut the back and sew it together.) Any other insight?

----------------------------

Basically, the men's size has larger waist +3cm and longer arm +2cm while the women's size has larger hip +8cm and correct waist. Both have correct chest measurement.

Not sure if i can just go ahead and order a women's jacket... is there any difference? O_O

How tight or loose it is across the shoulders [in the firing position] and under the armpits is important. Buttons can be moved to different positions for chest & waist fit.

I'd agree with that. You may find other aspects may need altering if you shoot ISSF governed competitions, but get the fit right across the shoulders and go from there.

A women's jacket will have a bigger proportion of the "chest" measurement in the front and less across the back, so it's likely that the arms will be too far back for you even if the total chest measurement is right. (I found this despite being a woman :) ).

Is there any chance you could try some on? Anyone at your club who's about your size and has the make you are interested in?

anyway, I think I'll order a set of Korea Marksman House upon recommendation by my coach instead. And also upon advice from this forum, to judge by the width of your shoulder.

Since there is no mention of shoulder width for Standard Sizes.

And also... Monard hasn't been replying emails at all... =( are they annoyed at me for sending so many emails and not yet ordering? I was really going to, but the continued delay will really force me to just go with my coach's recommendation... =/ oh well
