Using laser cylinder to replace air cylinder.

Anyone with experience playing those laser guns?

I don't think anyone here has seen one, much less handled one. I have no idea if it will catch on.

After reading the linked PDF (highly recommended), this is a VERY BAD idea. They are relying on an electronic target system...meaning big $$ to the people producing the system, and prohibitive expenditures for the hosts. Especially at a low level.

Not to mention that nobody is making a complete pistol, just clamp-on widgets for APs.

This reeks of somebody manipulating the sport for a kickback from an equipment maker.

It's as if the ISSF were to mandate Suis-Ascor system for every single match.

Whilst I think this is a bad move and a pointless one to boot, it is at the prototyping stage right now. So no there will be no specific guns etc just yet. Only time will tell if this move takes off, if it gets athlete and coach support, or if (as I hope) it falls flat on it's face. I too wonder how this is meant to work at lower levels - will they expect everyone to change 'guns' and buy the targetry or what ?

Does Modern Pentathalon even have a "lower level?"
FWIW, I hope this idea dies a quick death.

Couldn't agree more.

I'd bet that those who gave birth to the modern pentathlon would be turning in their graves if they knew!

Can you imagine trying to attract new members to you shooting club when you tell them, "well, we don't actually fire guns"...

I would presume so, and even if not they do need to train. I'm with you on the last bit though. And actually I'd like the IOC to refuse to support it, although they probably have no say.
