I've recently been using a small white dot on my LP2 front sight to help me focus on it (and it's helped).

I'm doing a competition this weekend (my first) - it's actually a Pentathlon - and I'm unsure as to whether it's actually legal to have a dot on the sight or not.

Anyone know?

The only reference to pistol sights explictly mentioned in the GB Pentathlon Rules is ...

5.31.1.4.

Only open sights are allowed.

Optical, mirror, telescopic, laser beam and electronically projected
dot sights and similar devices are prohibited.

Any aiming device programmed to activate the firing mechanism is prohibited.

No protective covering is permitted on front or rear open sights.

I don't think that this prohibits the dot but I'm not 100% sure.

White dot, green, purple... color the whole thing, half, dot... it's all good. But experience says that it's only a matter of time before the "distraction' is accepted as normal and you fall back into your old habits. In other words, you will perform just as you did with a solid black sight after your brain adjusts to the dot.

But it will make you focus on the front sight a little better for a while!

No, it's a triathlon so individual shoot, swim and run events. Maybe they'll change it next year.

I know I am going to regret posting this ,and please consider it as a joke. I highly recomend a black dot in the middle of your front sight. Good Shooting Bill Horton

Colored sights are unorthodox, but not wrong. Large chunks of the black powder community have used orange for years. But don't use a dot - paint the whole face of the sight.
