Hi all
Just a curious Q from Europe...
Are Shilen rimfire barrels common among SB prone shooters in the US?

Although they don't have a huge following in the prone scene, they make some excellent rimfire barrels. I had a Shilen drop in match barrel for the Ruger 10/22, and with a good lot of Eley black it would put ten shots in an area about the size of my fingernail at 50 meters. It could easily shoot a 20X clean on a 50 meter. Not bad for a semi-auto, I'm sure it would have been better in an Anschutz.
Their claim to fame has primarily been in the benchrest world.

In my experience, in smallbore prone and position, no. In benchrest I would think yes. Shilen was always associated with benchrest shooting.
This may change because the rumor is that Shilen's new rachet rifleing process produces some great shooting barrels. May take a while though, smallbore barrels tend to last quite a while.
Right now you will see mostly Hart, Lilja, Schnieder, Broughton and Bartlien barrels on rebarreled smallbore rifles, in no particular order. Benchmark is coming on strong. You still see many older McMillan, Acheson and the occasional Johnson barrel on the line.
I have a Shilen on my 6BR 300m free rifle, they make nice barrels.
