I have a Steyr LP10.

I have read that rear sight can be moved backward. But I don't understand the rationale of doing this. Manual did not mention anything about the ability to move rear sight back.

Moving rear sight back increase the overall radius. So you must have super steady hold to use this long radius.

Is there other inherent advantage that I am not aware of?

As you notice, longer radius, more precise alignmnent, but because of we are not so steady as a robot, it can be not a great advantage.

You can go higher on the frame with a custom grip when the sight is farther back. And depending on what your eye "likes" to do, it may advantageous to move the rear sight as well as the front sight back, some people find it easier to stay concentrated on the sights of they are closer to the eye. So, not everything is useless...

General advice I've heard is to move the rear sight and the front sight rearwards, thus keeping the same overall sight radius. You can of course increase the sight radius by just moving the rear sight back. It's really up to you as to what 'style' you prefer and which produces the best results - give it a try and see, you can always put it back to where it was.
