Rules on repeating AP

Friend lost his one shot magazine, and no time to get another 'fore Feb 6, when the year starts.

Rule says repeating pistols can be used, if loaded shot by shot. Is the one shot magazine mandatory or he can use the five shot mag, if loading only one?

6.2.2.4.1 ...If a 5-shot air pistol is used in the 10 m Air Pistol Event(s) only one pellet may be loaded.

How the shooter achieves this is immaterial - a one-shot magazine is not mandatory
