Air Pistol at the Seoul Olympics

Post by j-team »

OK

Here's a question.

What pistols were used by the medal winners in air Pistol at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

Medalsist were:

Men
1st Kiriakov
2nd Buljung
3rd Xu

Women
1st Sekaric
2nd Salukvadze
3rd Dobrantcheva

Basically I was wondering if that was the last time FWB dominated?

Steyr and Morini had not arrived at this stage.

Erich shot a FWB Model 2 most of the time. I imagine tht is what he had in 1988.

And for some odd reason, I thought Kiriakov shot a Walther CO2 gun, but I can't be certain. He may have also shot a FWB.

I think J-team is right. By Steyr records, the only medal won by a Steyr in 1988 went to an Austrian, Horst Krasser. He took bronze at the World Cup in Moscow.

In 1992, Yifu Wang and Marina Logvinenko won Gold medals in Barcelona, with Steyr Air Pistols.

The bottom line is that in the time between 1988 and 1992, Steyr took a huge market share from Feinwerkbau. It didn't help that Morini developed a world class AP in the same era.

Still nobody figured out what pistols were used for the 1988 Olympics gold medalists? FWB2 or FWB65? Walther?

I have to say this - "Who Cares"

I personally dont care what gun someone uses to win a gold medal, it certainly doesn't mean much to the rest of us. Most top shooters will shoot the same scores with a variety of guns given enough time to learn about each!!!

A gun does not win the gold, its the person behind the gun who does the work... the gun is just a tool!

And those of us that are interested don't care that you don't care!
