I have a question after decding to buy a toz 35 i have started to look for a second hand gun,i have fond 2 though have not seen them only photos they both look good one is atoz 35 from vostok the other is a tula to3 35 that is what is marked on the gun and on the manuale is the tula a new toz did the company change name are these the same guns? OR are they different?Thanks.

TOZ is an acronym for Tula Arms Factory (or something similar). They used to have a web site, but there was no contact information on the site.

There are two major small arm manufactures (armories) in Russia. One plant in City of Tula and one in the city of Izhevsk. The Tula's products are all going under a brand TOZ (Tula's Oruzheiny Zavod) The exporters brand is Vostok. Hence is Vostok/TOZ in different combinations.
The Izhevsky Mechanical Zavod products are branded as IZH and Exported under name Baikal. Here is combination of Baikal / IZH branding.

The TOZ 35 was the older version and I believe it was made in the Tula armories in Russia.They have a rounded trigger guard and some believe they were made when the Russian teams wanted medals.They were very accurate and some believe slightly more so than the later TOZ 35M model.The later model TOZ 35M's were made quite well also but not in the armories,but by Vostok company,I think, and more geared towards a commercial adventure.Their trigger guards are slightly more square and their front sight was attached differently.Both of these pistols are quite accurate and,like any free pistol,are probably ammunition sensitive.This information came from an old free pistol specialist and passed on to me.Hope this info helps you.
