Hi, there,
I bought an IZH-35M like new this Feburary. I shoot about 500 rounds per week. The pistol is accurate, very accurate. But I have several parts broken since then. For example, extractor, extractor plunge, rear sight pin, magzine release button, second sear. I have to order parts once for a while. Is it normal? Is it because the ammo? I use cheap ammo - Federal 750 - which is 1260 FPS at muzzle, copper plated hollow point.

I suspect the parts broke because of the high velocity ammo you have been using. The IZH is a target pistol designed for standard velocity ammo. No one is importing the IZH 35M into the U.S. at present and parts are very hard to find. You might try the last importer - EAA.

1260fps is certainly high velocity.
I lost an extractor and plunger, not too sure why.

Some Australian dealers may well have parts.

If you have to go international, you may as well try Frankonia in Germany - they were the #1-importer for russian stuff into western Europe for several decades and sold quite a lot of 35s, some of them modified in their own shop.

+1 on SV ammo - you shouldn't be going through parts so quickly. Also cheap HV ammo is often very inconsistent. You may be getting some shots that are far too hot.


I'd purchased parts from EAA - http://eaacorp.com/ - about 9 months ago. They may still have some inventory.

I wonder how fast is for standard speed. For 36 grain at 1260 fps, it's momentum is the same as 40 grain at 1134 fps.

A 40 grain bullet with a muzzle velocity in the region of 1000-1050 fps from a 10" barrel would seem fairly standard to me. It would obviously be slower from a 6" barrel.

I received the parts from EAA and got my Izzy back to work.
Is there any big difference to shoot cheap ammo and match ammo for intermediate level shooter at 25 yards or 25 meters? I compared Federal 750 and Eley's match, no big difference for me. I consider myself intermediate level shooter because I have shot 500-600 rounds per week for nine months, and I learned a lot from here. Thanks again.

Glen Zedicker (high power shooter/author) says to "buy every point you can." Get the best equipment you can afford and use the best ammo for your gun and use your time to learn to shoot better. That said, if cheap ammo shoots as well as "the best" in your gun, then use it. Just try to be sure it is really as good (use a rest to test).
