If could buy one either of these used, in about the same condition, which would you chose, and why?

TOZ. Grips. Parts?

These two are very different, more so than meets the eye. First, the TOZ uses a striker in the falling block which is released by its own sear powered by an easily replaced coil spring. This makes for a very fast lock time.
The Hammerli uses an internal hammer,powered by an expensive/difficult to locate leaf spring, that swings up and hits a passive firing pin in the falling block.
The TOZ has a lower bore line, which gives a more straight back recoil. The Hammerli bore line is higher and closer to the sight line, thus canting is less of an issue. I have not found the recoil in the Hammerli problematic, even in the old model 100 with tapered octagonal barrel. I really like both!
However, I turned down a Hammerli because of parts and service expenses. When something goes wrong it will cost you a fortune. You can easily pay as much as the cost of the pistol to cover something like a faulty set trigger or damaged sear.
The TOZ parts are not a big problem.
